About this Event

What happens when your attention shifts from yourself, to your partner, to the whole room dancing? In this four-day workshop, master teacher Andrew Harwood invites us to ground in the core principles of Contact Improvisation — touch, tone, weight — and expand from there into space, time, image, gesture, and design. Through duets, trios, and ensemble dancing, we'll explore how a lightly held compositional awareness can deepen connection, meaning, and innovation in our dancing. This is more than creative practice. It's a way of building our capacity to collaborate and hold space for one another in community. Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood (Montreal) is an internationally recognized pioneer of CI who studied and performed with Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, and Nita Little. For over fifty years he has dedicated himself to dance improvisation as a rigorous artistic practice. Arrival and check-in Thursday 4–7pm, with dinner and an opening circle to follow. The weekend includes all meals, with lodging, camping, and commuter options on a sliding scale. Early bird pricing through August 6. Equity & Access tickets available.
