Samuel Samways is touring through Sebastopol for just a few days and offering us some really special classes to grow our dance community and communications! ....all culminating in a cross-modality "Contact-Fusion" Workshop on Sat, Oct 18th. Do you already do Contact Improv, Fusion, Brazilian Zouk, or some other partner dance and want to enjoy the blending and expansion of these styles into a mixed-style setting? Do you find that you don't get to dance in public to beautiful, slower, longer songs from international artists at a tolerable volume (without earplugs to protect yourself)? We will be creating beauty through movement together through facilitation that expands our body's intelligence and awareness for sharing coherent and creative dances with others. This is a unique opportunity to receive a personalized curriculum and feedback, along with somatic integration by moving with an intelligent dancing body (that also has a mouth to communicate with you). ||| MORE ABOUT SAMUEL ||| Samuel Samways is a Brazilian performing artist with 15 years of experience in partner dancing. His research extends to acrobatic movements, floorwork, Capoeira, contemporary dance, Contact Improvisation and the Fusion of Latin American social dances, with an emphasis in Brazilian Zouk, Tango, Forró and Samba de Gafieira. He is the creator of Mutual Leading, an improvisational technique that challenges the hierarchical structures traditionally associated with gender roles in social dance. Samuel is the director of Terceira Margem, an art collective interested in the intersection between dance, theater and circus. He is also the creator of the dance festival MONSTRA – Festival de Dança de Salão Contemporânea.
