Contact Improv Jam accompanied by LIVE violist Ilana

Join us to participate in contact improvisation dance during a special night accompanied by live music. 7-9pm, $7 ARC Pasadena 1158 East Colorado Blvd. The practice often starts with a physical point of contact and shared weight with a partner. From there, it builds into an open ended exploration which can involve rolling, falling, or even flying. Sometimes wild and athletic, sometimes meditative and quiet, it is a form open to all, regardless of body type or previous dance experience. Cost: 7 dollars for both the lab and jam. Ilana Summers is a classically trained violinist/violist/vocalist from Los Angeles, California. She picked up the violin at the ripe old age of seven and was consumed for the next decade by classical music traditions. In 2007, now “technically” proficient, Ilana was invited to come play with the local band, Disgized es Fog, and the floodgates to the world of jam-banding and improvisatory magic peeled open right before her ears. Ilana has since been involved with multiple musical projects including singing with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and playing violin with The Toledo Show, SIMA, Leopold Nunan and Dharma Kaya. She also frequently participates in a Tuesday night Jam Band residency at the Salvage Bar. Currently, Ilana’s musical focus revolves around a passion project exploring the relationship between stringed instruments and the human voice. Ilana holds a BM in both Music Education and Vocal Performance from Cal State Long Beach (2012) and maintains a small studio of voice students with an exploratory approach designed to help students understand and harness the power of their own unique instrument.
