About this Event

What: Day-long Contact Improv Workshop with Mariia Bakalo (from Crimea and Lviv, Ukraine) When: Sunday, 3 April Workshop 10h - 17h Where: Leipzig ( Klingenstrasse 22) 10h - 17h Workshop "My approach in teaching CI gets its source out of the understanding that practicing dance means practicing life, and choreography is an ongoing reality-construction process. Therefore my guess is that everyone is a dancer of their life, everyone changes others literally or metaphorically through the touch. So let's meet for living dance and dancing life. " Mariia Bakalo is a movement researcher, choreographer, teacher and cultural activist in the realm of contemporary dance from Crimea, currently based in Lviv (Ukraine). Her research focus integrates two of her biggest passions which are literature and dance (BA Choreography, MA Philology). After Crimean annexation in 2014, she moved to Lviv where founded the NGO “Contemporary Dance Space”. Since 2015, she led regular experimental dance classes the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. Her choreographic works of 2017-2019 years were dedicated to an idea of practicing dance as practicing life and perceiving choreography as ongoing reality-construction. In 2019, Mariia participated in an inclusive joint project initiated by Candoco dance company, inspiring her to inclusivity in dance projects. She was honored with a City Award for the best cultural activists, 2018, in Lviv, and in 2019 was designated as laureate of a Presidential artist scholarship.
