Continuing the growth of versatile dynamic practice such as
Contact Improvisation (CI) - we keep combining complex interest towards movement, falling, rising, structure & effortless, attentive support through the play of gravity.
Introducing science of spiraling momentum into safety, trust & curiosity of relating through the template of dynamic movement.
This workshop - guided session will be based on technical as much as sensorial, imaginative & somatic.
Visual reference for those who find it beneficial will be provided. Time to ask, reflect on & finding the personal journey will be provided.
--> Practical aspects of maneuvering - positioning & orienting (moving through & with) the body in the midst of the revolving dance to feel connected to the continuation of *inquiry* that is present in the technique of Contact Improvisation, adding to the sense of exploration between intuitive & tangible, personal & collective worlds of the dance.
Any experience is welcome to join the circle to cultivate inclusivity & safety of different skills.
-----------------------------------------------
Contact Improvisation (CI) carries a sincere appreciation for disorientation to be a pillar of the technique. Yet, it is inevitable to have (some) cornerstones - fundamental anchors to navigate with the chaos of choice to become a language of insight & cultivation.
What quality, mechanics, senses & understandings facilitate the cohesive redefining-relational dance?
At its core, as a reflection of a bigger display, Contact Improvisation is more than just a physical practice; it is a conversation of the (multi) layered (bodies), aiming at the depth of the meeting & bending the boundary of the already known, yet equally trusting the familiar as a safety-net for the new to pass through.
It is a humbling practice, where proving or impressing as a driving cause - doesn't (really) permit the depth to rise up in the compensating, compromising dialogue. Arriving into it on a moment by moment basis.
In this workshop, with multiple 'hands on' we will invite the invisible, in-forming geometry in the body of the dance(r). .
Underneath the act of study - We will remain patient to endure lasting sense of safety & acceptance. Developing & discovering gestures & responses for the guiding, noticing, permitting & resisting to be in the frame of clear awareness.
- We will lean into omnipresent Fascia, the one that inputs a range of micromovement enveloping the movement of dance in its entirety. Allowing the element of touch to grow from small to lasting, continuous and growing.
- We will dive into clarity over roles that merge the essence of Contact Improvisation, bridging the gap, yet amplifying & empowering *you & I*, in the midst of meeting in the 'Us'.

Why join ? | What's in it for you ?
- Become comfortable with giving & receiving weight of the body through the technical, yet improvised dance practice.
- Learn to orient in the space, as the attention shifts between exterior & interior.
- Learn the mobile functionality of the body through effortless exercises based on pivoting, rotating, gliding, sliding, swinging & swaying.
- Discover the nature of falling with & into the ground, leading into the subsequent support of rising.
- Merge with layers of trust & safety while surrendering to the meditative space of aikido-inspired movement.
- Bring questions to the forefront. 'How much can I receive & how much give?' 'How do I dance with balance?' 'How do I train my attention, yet remain relaxed, creative and mobile?'

What is Contact Improvisation :
Contact Improvisation (CI) is a postmodern dance practice that explores movement through shared weight, touch, and physical awareness.
Originating in the United States in 1972, contact improvisation was developed by dancer and choreographer Steve Paxton, drawing on influences from modern dance, aikido, and somatic practices.
Contact Improvisation emphasizes the interplay of gravity, momentum, and improvisation, fostering an experimental approach to movement that invites both professional dancers and newcomers into its global community.
With time the technique and practice of this movement form spread across Europe, Asia & Americas, growing into an international community of practitioners.
CI is a dynamic and expressive dance form that transcends traditional boundaries, inviting participants into a unique exploration of movement, connection, and self-discovery.
Notable dancers and founders:
Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Lisa Nelson.

Quote from the author:
"Contact improvisation is a spontaneous physical dialogue that ranges from stillness to highly energetic exchanges. Alertness is developed in order to work in an energetic state of physical disorientation, trusting in one's basic survival instincts. It is a free play with balance, self-correcting the wrong moves and reinforcing the right ones, bringing forth a physical/emotional truth about a shared moment of movement that leaves the participants informed, centered, and enlivened."
