About this Event
Please join us for this free, hybrid class in contact improvisation! The class is being sponsored by K77 Studio and Neustart Kulturfonds and is free for all participants. If you are in Berlin, you are welcome to join at K77 Studio (we have 9 places available, Kastanienallee 77, 10435 Berlin), at my place in Oderberg or online via Zoom. Either way you may participate alone or bring a partner to dance with. (There are other great workshops happening at the studio and online both Saturday & Sunday, with wonderfully experienced teachers, Christa Cocciole, Keya Richter, Katharina Recht, Jennifer Bopp and more! Click here for the full schedule.)
In our two hours together, we will dive into juicy dancing and explore how the foundational movement patterns (sometimes called the early childhood developmental patterns) can support us in our dancing. Actually, these patterns can support us in all that we do, as they are the foundation of all movement and remain relevant to us throughout our lives. We will focus especially on the breath pattern, core distal pattern (starfish or naval radiation pattern) and the spinal pattern (head-tail connection.) We will approach this work in a focused but playful manner. After dancing together, you will likely feel more grounded, yet lighter, and more connected - inside and out!
I have planned the class so that you can dance alone or come into contact with a partner - either way you will get a lot out of the experience. When dancing alone, it can be helpful to have both floor and wall space available. But if you only have floor space, that is also okay - improvisation is part of the name and part of the game, especially now in corona times. If at home, you are also welcome to have a gymnastic ball or to dance with furniture! Again this is just an option that could be fun to play with but not necessary.
RSVP: Please let me know if you plan to join at the studio, in Oderberg or online. This is important due to limited numbers allowed in the studio! Below is the zoom link. I look forward to dancing with you!

Liz Erber has been teaching contact improvisation for 20 years. She is deeply passionate about teaching, about CI as well as her work in somatic practices, especially with the Laban and Bartenieff Movement Studies. Liz began teaching at K77 Studio in Berlin in 2008, and later organised regular performance series there (the IPA- Instantaneous Performance Abend and the Hungry Artists Café), and helped to direct the studio for a couple of years. She now lives in Oderberg, Brandenburg and is the founder/director of KuNaKu: Haus für Kunst, Natur und Kultur. She also combines her artistic work with nature conservation (Naturschutz). She is involved in the Save the Oder campaign (saveoder.org - please sign the petition to save Germany’s and one of Europe's most natural rivers!)
