Megan and Shira will share skills from their extensive training in contact improvisation in this two day workshop! Cost: $120-$200, sliding scale, with pre-registration by February 15. $180-$240 with registration after February 15. Tickets available here or you can pay in person with a deposit (reach out to Leslie at the info above) Megan Lowe (she/they) is a dancer, choreographer, performer, aerialist, singer-songwriter, filmmaker, teacher, and administrator of Chinese and Irish descent, making dance art in the San Francisco Bay Area. With an affinity dynamic/kinetic movement, site-specificity/space-interaction, aerial/vertical dance, and contact improvisation/partnering, her creations through Megan Lowe Dances explore complex identities and experiences by tackling unusual physical situations and inventing compelling solutions, opening up the imagination to what is possible. Megan is an Izzie Award recipient, and her recent choreographic works have been seen at Fort Mason, Joe Goode Annex, ODC, de Young Museum, Legion of Honor Museum, and 500 Capp Street, as well as in SF Aerial Arts Festival, United States of Asian America Festival, CAAMFest, SF Trolley Dances, and on KQED Live. Megan has performed with Flyaway Productions, Dance Brigade, Lenora Lee Dance, Scott Wells & Dancers, Lizz Roman & Dancers, Epiphany Productions and more. She is a teaching/choreographing artist for Joe Goode Performance Group, BANDALOOP, Flyaway, and her alma mater Theater, Dance, & Performance Studies at UC Berkeley, where she currently works as the Program Associate. Megan’s process thrives off of collaboration, prioritizing creating relationships of respect, generosity, and gratitude. She harnesses this culture of magnanimity in the dance classes/workshops she leads, for organizations, schools, universities, and dance festivals, serving movers of all different ages, experience levels, body types, races, cultures, and socio-economic statuses—building community and connection. She enjoys encouraging people to be in their bodies while learning new skills, being creative, listening and adapting to the changing present moment. Shira is the co-founder and owner of Athletic Playground, a dynamic indoor space, inspiring physical play through a wide variety of movement classes.
