My name is Alex Milewski, I'm a dancer from Colorado and co-founder of Block 1750 and The Block Party. My main style is breaking, but I spend most of my time these days brewing mixtures of contemporary/breaking/house/capoiera into a fun potion I call “Contemporary Breaking". As all dance goes, the movement is heavily dictated by the music: for me when the tempo slows, the weird (fun) begins. I spent the beginning of this year exploring/performing/teaching/learning in 30 cities across Europe and Morocco and I would Love to share some of what I have captured with you! ~Who~ Intermediate and Advanced Contemporary dancers and BBoys/Girls looking to bring new dimensions to their art by learning how to move in fundamentally different ways within the shape of their existing dance. ~Why~ Because we are dancers, and we Love to move in new ways. ~What~ This workshop will serve as an introduction to my favorite style crossover: contemporary and breaking. The purpose is to give insights into a new way of thinking about your dance (whether that is breaking or contemporary) using the lens of the other style. As a bboy, I focus on bringing aspects of breaking into other styles, making those aspects accessible to dancers of the given style, and fitting them into the energy tempo and presence of that style. We will do a short amount of choreography, but the workshop will be heavily focused on free form movement and capturing the "feels".
