About the Workshop
The workshop will include an introduction to Contemporary dance technique. Floor-work, manipulating space, working with rhythm, learning how to fall are a part of the important aspects that will be addressed in the workshop. Movement tools created by satakshi as influenced from theatre and her experience of working and learning with artistes of different movement forms will be applied. Participants will be led to apply these tools and improvise into creating individual movement style/vocabulary.

The Facilitator : -
Satakshi is a Contemporary dancer from Kolkata. She completed her diploma in Movement Arts from Attakkalari Center for Movement Arts, Bangalore in 2015 where she was introduced to Kalaripayattu, Contemporary dance technique, Indian folk dance among others. She has prior training in Kathak and Classical Jazz, and has practiced theatre extensively within Kolkata. She conducts dance and movement workshops in Kolkata and performs as a dancer and actor for different projects. A part of her in depth Improvisation practice comes from being a resident dancer at play Practice Residency(2015) Bangalore, extensive theatre practice through performing with collectives in Kolkata and through working in performance works. Her main interest lies in inter-disciplinary training by drawing principles from different forms of movement arts. She also conducts classes and workshops in Contemporary Dance and Movement. Satakshi has presently completed an internship with a collective of Parkour artistes called ' Parkour Circle' in Chennai, whilst understanding principles of Parkour that can be applied to Dance, and vice versa.

Dancer and co- choreographer in a Dance Theatre ‘Sister Outsider’ with Ludivine Metarie(supported by University Paris 8) that travelled in Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata.
A solo dance piece, 'Strange Fruit' presented at the Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards 2016.
A movement artist and actor in National Award winning film, ‘Amar Katha’(2014),
Dancer in 'Praatohkrityo' a dance theatre by the collective Theatre Formation Paribartak which travelled to Delhi and Kolkata.
Dancer in a video installation project ‘Across the Burning Track’ which premiered at the Shanghai Biennial 2016.
