About this Event
Sacramento Tango is growing - new initiates mingle with intermediate dancers in workshops offered by different studios in town. I have asked myself, what are the most important skills I wish I had had when I started out? And so, in collaboration with Count Glover, we have come up with an initial set of very solid workshops, for you to assemble the ingredients of a truly delicious dance, to become one of our most desireable dancers... (with a little bit of patience;-)
Each workshop is $20, priced so you can profit from the progression in these workshops.
Saturday, April 2nd
13:30 - 14:45 I. How to learn Argentine Tango?
Learning a choreography is hard enough, but an improvisational partner dance? In this workshop, we’ll explore different areas of learning, different learning styles, memorizing vs transcription,
and how to make the most of classes and workshops.
15:00 - 16:15 II. Foundation Stones for your Tango
This workshop will cover basic skills you will need to build your repertoire in order to enrich your dance, and define which elements you will develop for Tango, for Vals, and for Milonga.
Sunday, April 3rd
13:15 - 14:30 III. Elements for Tango
Before we can attempt to interpret the music, we need to understand it. We will approach Tango’s three-act structure like a stage play, and get a sense of orientation and timing within the piece, preparing us to assemble sequences that actually fit into the music.
14:45 - 16:00 IV. Elements for Milonga I
Milonga, the African mother of Tango, is an entirely different animal, as many of us have already noticed. Part I of this workshop will reduce the “moves” you have learnt to use in Tango, and introduce rhythmic variations. We will revisit connection and embrace to communicate more viscerally.
16:15 - 17:30 V. Elements for Milonga II
This second part of the workshop will approach Milonga from the perspective of rhythm and musicality. You will discover how to initiate and perform a traspie WITH your partner, and how to have fun with basic steps inside the rhythm.
