CSDS May Workshop Event and Dance with Markus Smith and Tren Veal

We are thrilled to have renowned champion dancers, coaches, and choreographers Markus Smith and Trendlyon (Tren) Veal as our guest instructors on Saturday, May 16th. The event will be held at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church with 2 afternoon workshops. Markus and Tren will also lead a fun pre-dance lesson, and then stick around to dance with us. Workshop Schedule: 2:15-2:45 pm: Check in/Warm up. 2:45-3:45 pm: Workshop #1: Happy Feet | Add texture and style to your dance with some playful and musical footwork variations. 3:45-4:00 pm: Break. Check in/Warm up. 4:00-5:00 pm: Workshop #2: Micromusicality | An introduction to using smaller movements, accents, and “groove” to look and feel more expressive with the music. 5:00-7:00 pm: Dinner break on your own. Please note the church will be closed during this time. 7:00-8:00 pm: Pre-dance lesson: Grab the Spotlight! A fun pattern so you can shine on the dance floor. 8:00-10:30 pm: Dance! Kristin Wenger spins the tunes. More About Markus and Tren Markus and Tren are one of the most dynamic, inspiring, and fun-loving couples! It is hard to take your eyes off of them, even on a crowded dance floor. They are both swing dance champions and own the dance company Stuck on Swing. You may have seen one of Tren’s iconic dance videos go viral on Facebook, YouTube, or TikTok. You may have seen Markus on BET, So You Think You Can Dance, or the movie Love N’ Dancing. Together they travel across the United States and internationally, teaching, competing, judging, and performing. They routinely place among the top 5 in the world of WCS dance competitions, and have shared their signature D.C. Hand Dance style with communities across the U.S. and abroad. They are most passionate about bringing people together and sharing the gift of dance and music with the next generation. Logistics: 1. For smoother, faster check-in, we encourage all dancers to pre-register. For the best price, buy the PACKAGE! 2. We expect high attendance at this event, and parking space is limited.
