Cuban Salsa Party, Special Workshops, & Carnaval Performance

RCR hosts a Cuban Dance Party every 1st Saturday of the month at Lake Merritt Dance in Oakland. In June there will be a short dance performance, a reprise of the 4 choreographies we danced in the San Francisco Carnaval Parade, a tribute to Ochún/La Caridad del Cobre. We are offering three workshops this month — at 5:00pm, Ryan’s listening class will be devoted to the conga drum (tumbadora), some of the most common rhythms that it plays (e.g. marcha, guaguancó, pilón), and how these rhythms can inform your choices of how, and on which beat, to dance. At 6:15pm Or will offer a Rueda Timing Workshop where alternating couples dance on 1 and on 5 as well as the following 1, eight beats offset.
