CUBAN☆FUSION 2020 - celebrating 15 years of Cubania in NZ CUBAN☆FUSION 2020 - celebrando 15 años de Cubania in NZ UPDATE: What a year. Been out of business more than been in it this year thanks COVID-19. Definitely not an easy time for anyone and not an easy time to plan an event or count on anything happening so we're keeping this year's birthday celebrations simple if not spread-out, and crossing our fingers they will go ahead! Starting at El Barrio on Saturday 10 October with DJ Timba Cubana and Son de Cuba LIVE and finishing at The Cross on Sunday 11 October with our free monthlyish (thanks to COVID-19) Salsa Lesson/Session we are hoping to be able to celebrate 15 years since Rafael arrived in NZ and CUBAN☆FUSION was born, as well Cuban Independence Day/El Dia del Grito de Yara. Coincidentally the 10th of October is also Cuban Independence Day (a.k.a. El Dia del Grito de Yara) - on this day in 1868, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, "Father of the Homeland", gave freedom to his slaves and started the independence war against the Spanish colonial power, which led to the Ten Years' War So we've got lots to celebrate and commemorate today! A BIG GRACIAS to our teachers and assistants present and past (Rogelio Enrique Carles-Rosas, Nina Baranenko, Niki Boolieris and Jenny Beech), and all our students, dancers and supporters over the years.
