About this Event
Dance Connection Workshop with Garry Johnson & Lina Gutierrez
Saturday June 6th
3:00-4:30
YoloArts Gibson House
This lesson is accessible for a wide range of levels, but basic knowledge of partner dancing is recommended.
This workshop is designed to dive into practical techniques for actually leading and following your partner, not just learning and stumbling through classroom patterns. There are many variations that go into dancing with a partner, such as the level of your partner, the specific song, the dance floor stickiness, etc., so rather than relying on choreographed patterns to make us "good dancers" let's learn how to use contextual leading, following, and individual rhythm confidence for improvement.
Workshop fee -- $40

Garry Johnson has been teaching dance since 1993. Trained across multiple styles and traditions, he's spent decades figuring out what actually works on a social dance floor. A percussionist at heart, he teaches connection, rhythm, and the real conversation happening between two people when the music is right.
Lina Gutierrez grew up surrounded by music in Cali, Colombia -- a city where the rhythm isn't taught, it's inherited. Rooted in Colombian folkloric dance, her deep love for timba and salsa is the foundation of everything she brings to the floor as a dancer and teacher. She doesn't just know the music -- she feels it, and she'll help you feel it too.
Together, Garry & Lina bring complementary strengths to the floor -- years of experience meeting a deep, natural musicality. Their goal is simple: give you something you'll actually use.
After the workshop, we will be hosting social dancing at the Havana Vibes event at the Gibson House until 8:00
