About this Event

Come Join the movement on SUNDAY AFTERNOON 3.26 ! Spring has officially SPRUNG! And there is magic and newness swirling in the air... can you feel it? Join us on >> Sunday AFTERNOON We are welcoming back a crowd favorite, Kerry Bo Berry! Having grown up in South Africa and been majorly influenced by the house music scene, Kerry has had a deep connection to music and dance since a young age. She aims to capture the minds and hearts of her audience with heart warming & fun vibes. She got her start behind the decks in the dust, for Camp Charlie, at Burning Man 2013 and was a resident DJ with the notorious Steampunk Saloon until their recent disbandment. Burningman is still her favorite place to DJ, from the Opulent Temple White Party, for a crowd of naked burners and Alex Grey at the foam dome, or for a crew of rowdy cheerleaders aboard a giant cock car. She loves to play a saucy mix of Bass House, indie Dance, nuDisco, Deep House, and wants nothing more than to boogie down with you! Connect with her here ::: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/KerryAuretAlignment Insta - https://www.instagram.com/thekerryauret/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ But first.... Warm Up your body with a very special guest, Nikolai McKenzie Ben Rema. Nikolai’s movement journey is a rising-and-falling of energy and effort informed by tantric practices, breathwork, and somatics. The journey aims to prepare the body for rigorous discovery through use of body scans, imagery, progressive deepening of relationship to kundalini energy and constructive rest. Born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, and raised in the American South, Nikolai is a movement artist, improvisor, actor, writer, and teacher whose work and research deal with the tectonic plates of race/history/class/ sexuality/ language politics/ patriotism, and how these facets of identity filtered through a queer immigrant experience can physically and emotionally manifest in space and word. A Bessie Award-winning performer and graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, Nikolai’s choreography has been performed in New York, Richmond and Norfolk, VA, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. Some performance highlights include the works of Arthur Aviles, jumatatu m. poe and Donte Beacham, Banning Bouldin, Aszure Barton, Robert Battle, Kate Weare, Vince Johnson, Gunnar Montana, Adam Barruch, Kun-Yang Lin, Bryan Koulman, and Christian Von Howard. Nikolai is currently creating dance theater works rooted in storytelling of personal ancestry as a decolonizing reclamation of queer Caribbean birthright, as a fatwa in patwa, as a reimagining the queer future of the Caribbean and the Diaspora. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And finally :: Let yourself soften and melt into a restful savasana as you receive Joshua Maurer's sound bathing tones. Joshua will create a soundscape rich in overtones with the help of the symphonic gong. The intention here is to induce a deep "savasana" (which is said to be one of the most important aspects of the yoga practice) so we may allow the body, mind, and spirit to harmonize, integrate, and receive the overwhelming amount of benefits of the dance. Collectively, we will gently rise and have a unified space for sharing. Joshua, a sound facilitator and life coach, has worked with and received guidance under world-renowned sound researcher and ethnomusicologist, Alexandre Tennous, and other facilitators, professors, and doctors from around the globe studying the effects sound has on the brain and body. He is also a RYT yoga teacher, cacao facilitator, cook, and dedicated explorer of non-ordinary states of consciousness. Let's tap into the infinite well of love and celebrate this living moment together! >> The location that will be hosting our dancing bodies will be Philadelphia Ethical Society... of course in the city of brotherly & sisterly love.
