Dance Medicine Philly presents Ecstatic Dance December 20th

Solstice Ecstatic Dance! As the sun sets for the night of longest darkness of the year, we come together for ecstatic dance. Journey into this friday night with the amazing sounds of DJ Oliver Balint, who comes to us from the west coast USA. Oliver has played all over the USA and we are overjoyed to welcome him for he Philly debut. The Solstice dance is on a Friday night! To accommodate folks getting there on time, we will be starting an hour later, at 7pm to allow for folks to be there for the warm up. One of our own organizers Jacob Patrick Ellis will be leading the yoga warm up for this evening. Jacob's classes are always a treat so make sure to be in attendance for amazing Pranic flow to help you get warm for our exciting hour of dancing. DRTY HVN has been DJ'n since 2005. He helped grow one of the springboards of Ecstatic Dance from the Big Island of Hawaii for 15 years. He has been touring nationwide for 4 years with his nomadic, minimalistic, and artistic lifestyle. Known for fusing tribal bass, nostalgic rhythms, and his live mash-ups. https://soundcloud.com/oliverbalint Our Sound Healing is going to be played by Sonni Shine. Sonni is a songwriter, vocalist, guitar player, and yoga teacher living in Philadelphia. She weaves together percussive guitar riffs, soul-drenched melodies, and meaningful lyrics to create a rootsy combination of R&B, funk, jazz, and folk. She sings with an urgency of feeling and emotion, and plays guitar with a style all her own; influenced by finger-picking, world rhythms and the blues. Her sound has drawn comparisons to Amy Winehouse, Rising Appalachia, Erykah Badu, and Norah Jones. In September of 2018, Sonni released her first self-produced full length solo album called "Reconcile," featuring many Philly greats and recorded in the city of brotherly love. As a solo artist and as front-woman for the reggae-fusion band The Underwater Sounds, she has shared the stage with such prestigious acts as Snarky Puppy, Nai Palm (of Hiatus Kaiyote), The Easy Star All Stars, John Brown's Body, and Groundation. A producer and songwriter at heart, she collaborates frequently with different musicians. She has written music for Kuf Knotz, goldenspiral, C-rayz Walz, Cultureal, Money Fame & Love, Impressionist, and Predator Dub Assassins, and her compositions have been featured on WKDU, WXPN, WMMR, and Radio 104.5. Schedule for the Event: 6:45pm-7:00pm arrival 7:00pm-8pm warm up class with Jacob Patrick Ellis 8:00-9:45pm Ecstatic Dance with DJ DRTY HVN 9:45-10:15pm Sound Healing by Sonni Shine 10:15pm fruit share, clean up and good bye We collectively come alive for Ecstatic dance; turning a quiet Sunday evening into an electric, grounding, energetic, life giving experience. As we dance, there will be blankets and an alter set out in a lounge area for resting, reflection and relaxation as well as a water cooler for hydrating. Afterwards, we’ll have a short closing circle and then invite everyone to eat some freshly prepared fruits and snacks as we say goodbye. . This is a dance as you wish, safe space, absolutely everyone is welcome event. We are substance and alcohol free. We encourage no talking on the dance floor while we are in the flow of the event. This is organized by a group of dance and movement enthusiasts who want to build community through dance and appreciation for healthy living. This community and experience fosters both indivdual and collective growth. Encourage your friends to join us as we witness our own transformations. Some things to consider bringing: Water bottle, yoga mat, something warm to cover with for the sound healing, drums/rattles, flow toys like hula hoops, juggling balls and poi. Tickets Early Bird (only 10!! tickets available) - $10 then it's...... Regular - $15 (Available until 5pm on the day of the dance) At the door price- $20 (available online and at the door, cash) Come whenever you can arrive. If you need to come in late or leave early this is ok. Kids of all ages welcome too!! Guidelines: 1. Dance however you wish 2. No talking on the dance floor 3. Respect the space 4. No alcohol, no shoes (unless foot protection is necessary)
