A MIX OF CLASSES WITH BOTH OLD AND NEW DANCES WILL BE TIED TOGETHER DURING THIS TRIP. ------------------------------------------------------ ••••••••••••••••••••••• WEEK 1 ••••••••••••••••••••••• We dance and relax on the subtropical island: INHACA The first week we spend on the sub-tropical island Inhaca, a beautiful paradise island just 2 hours away from Maputo with boat. Inhaca is an important marine research centre, known in particular for its offshore coral reefs. The classes will be held by talented professional dancers & musicians and we dance both on the beach and in the local dance company's dance space. In between the classes we enjoy the peaceful island life, relax, interact with locals, explore the beaches and the fauna and visit "Ilha dos Portugueses" famous for under water divining and coral reefs. We live comfortably in smaller shared lodges with shower/bathroom, close to the beach and will have a local cook from the Island preparing Mozambican meals for us throughout the first week. Maputo with is waterside settings and wide avenues lined with jacaranda and flame trees is a city rich of culture and full of life! We also visit and spend time in Matola the largest suburb to Matputo where Nando has build a pre-school and cultural center. In between the classes you will have the opportunity to explore the city filled with culture and places to visit and to see. We all stay together in a small local hostal in barrio Polana Caniço, a suburb with it's own market and local bars. A local from Polana Caniço will be preparing our meals and join us during the second week, anyone curious in learning how to prepare Mozambican traditional dishes is welcome into the kitchen try it out. Half of the classes are AFRO-HOUSE and the other half are TRADITIONAL MOZAMBICAN DANCES accompanied to live music. During the dance trip we we work only with first level dancers and put a high value on the quality of the classes. It is an open level and the teachers adjust to the group so that everyone will be challenged on their own level while enjoying, learning and having fun. ---> TASTER/BONUS CLASSES: • LINDY HOP & MARRABENTA During this trip we will also offer taster classes. These classes are open to any one who wants to participate, both for participants on the Dance Trip and for locals. It is an opportunity to try something new and to do it together with people from Mozambique, a learning and sharing experience. LINDY HOP will one of the dances that you will have the chance to learn the basics in during this trip. We will also offer a taster class in the Mozambican dance MARRABENTA.
