About this Event
Are you ready to dance the weekend away? Join us for a solo jazz and Afro Fusion workshop, led by the incredible jazz and Lindy Hop dancer Jason Hsu and Afro fusion dancer River Flows. No partner is needed, as all classes will be solo, so come as you are and get ready to let loose and express yourself through dance.
This workshop is perfect for all levels, whether you're a seasoned dancer or a newbie to the world of dance. Expect to be challenged and to leave feeling sweatier and happier than ever before.
We'll be hosting classes on Saturday at BLS Halli, where we'll dance the day away before heading to an evening party featuring live music with David Skinner Trio! You'll be able to bring your own drinks to this party. There will be partner dancing (Lindy Hop) but we do encourage jazz jams!
On Sunday, we'll continue our dance journey at Sentralen in Kronsalen, one of Oslo's top venues. There will be a bar available for drinks, so leave your own drinks at home. We'll close out the weekend with another party after class at Kronsalen. We will have a culture talk session before the Sundays party led by Jason.
Get ready to let your body move and feel the rhythm like never before!
Full pass: 750 (members) / 1000 (non members)
Party, culture talk and Afro Fusion: 400 (members) / 500 (non members)
Class themes:
Solo (Jason Hsu)
* Essential tools for IMROV!
Short description: PUT YOUR ARMS IN THE AIR! In this class, we will work on solo improv and will dive into a better way to use the essential tools - our body and beautiful arms - to make improv more friendly!
* Feel the MUSIC (Solo edition)
Short description: Body, music, and feelings are the golden triangle of dancing. As Dawn Hampton once said, “What you feel in the music, it’s what makes you dance.” Let the feelings all out and feel free to express ourselves through dancing!
AfroFusion (River Flows)
This weekend's classes will be open level, allowing everyone to participate regardless of experience. Basics, choreography and great African vibes is to be expected.
Jason Hsu (he/him)
"Be sassy and be jazzy!" Jason will show you not only the ways you can connect to the music and express yourself through improvisation, but also how to feel free in doing it. That's the main value you will get from Jason! Freedom of expression characterises Jason's teaching and dancing, not along with the gender equality in partner dancing. You really feel great and empowered in both roles after one of his classes! Also, he's great gay. Apart from dancing, Jason is currently doing a Master's program in the Anthropology of Dance and also running a podcast “Swing大小事|PrideVoice.”, where you will find so many fun chats with the Lindy Hopper’s around the world.
River Flows (She/her)
Dance has always given me a lot of joy and strength" - River Flows. She started her dance journey from her bedroom, learning from dance movies and YouTube videos. She has had the pleasure of meeting and impacting many beautiful souls through dance. This weekend, she is ready to share this passion with you. She teaches mainly Afrodance, which is a component of various African styles. Her East African background connects her more to East African genres such as Bongo Flava, Sebene, Dombolo, but she also loves West African and South African beats and styles.
