Dancing the Axis Syllabus: Nash Hill Holla' Edition

On-Going Thursdays 10-11:30 $15 drop-in 6 consecutive classes for $75 (one class free) The Axis Syllabus is a compendium of information from the study of anatomy, bio-mechanics, physics, and other related fields relevant to the moving body. In these dance classes we engage with anatomical clues in a quest to collaborate more deeply with the body's own inherited design. We seek to re-train movement patterns for respectful coherence and to grow our physical possibilities while learning and respecting our structural limitations. CLASSES ARE OPEN TO ALL LEVELS and students are encouraged to engage material at a pace and approach that preferences integration over ambition. To this end, I will often offer a range of adaptations so learning can be supported for beginners and seasoned dancers simultaneously. Classes will include improvisation as well as choreographed motifs. He has taught Axis Syllabus, Contact Improvisation, and Composition internationally in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and throughout North America. Whether teaching physical skills or compositional practices, his intention is to foster tools for informed choice and increased possibility. His work has been presented at Performática (Mexico), The Imagining Bodies Symposium (Estonia), Dancing in Place Festival (Malaysia), the San Francisco International Arts Festial, SoWat Now Contemporary Performance Festival, and Looking Left Festival (California), and at the SEEDS Festival and E|MERGE Residency (Massachusetts). He has had worked with veterans and non-veterans in collaboration with EchoTheaterSuitcase project, and in San Quentin Prison with The Artistic Ensemble. His most recent group work explored intersections between the experiences of his students at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and the experiences of oppression expressed in interviews he conducted with Palestinians in the West Bank.
