About this Event
Come learn the Dean Collins version of the Shim Sham!
All levels of dancers are welcome. This is a solo dance, so you don't need a partner. And it is kind of a rite of passage for LA dancers to learn it.
**Brief History**
The original Shim Sham was created in the late 1920's by tap dancers Leonard Reed and Willie Bryant.
Dean Collins (born Sol Ruddusky) was a swing dancer from New York who is credited for bringing Lindy Hop to Los Angeles in the late 1930s.
He created his own version of the Shim Sham in 1938 and made modifications to it throughout his life.
The Shim Sham that is danced at most swing dances throughout the world today, was created by Frankie Manning (the most famous swing dancer of all-time) in the late 1980s.
It has been many years since we have taught the Dean Collins version, so we think it is time.
