ABOUT THE CLASS
Purnendra’s movement practice revolves around the simplicity of movement and the beauty which lies in detail. This movement vocabularly drawing from daily life makes it easy to share dance and movement with participants and audiences. He works with how to create a different vocabulary with the movement using time, space and a daily life routine.
Purnendra will share in this workshop how performers can use simple movements in choreography and dance them with skill and artistry. The session will also focus on body flow and control. When the dancer moves with a sense of flow, it creates an almost ethereal effect like floating or flying. However, one needs to learn control how one can stop moving at any given time. In his teaching Purnendra will teach techniques towards how to allow the body to flow and how to control this.
Improvisation is the basic tool that will be used explore the self and different movement patterns for creating and finding one’s own vocabulary.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Purnendra Meshram is an India based movement artist who is working nationally and internationally. Though he started dancing at a young age, his professional career started in 2013, when he joined Attakkalari diploma for Movement Arts and Mix Media. He is mainly trained in various technique of Contemporary along with a good authority in Hip-hop and Kalaripayattu. He had trained under some finest mentors in the world. He has worked with many renowned choreographers in India and abroad. He worked in Dubai Park for a year as a performer. Currently he is performing, teaching and focused on creating his own works.for a year as a performer. His recent work “2 Men” won the first prize at Festival 10 Sentidos,
Choreographic Competition (Valencia, Spain) and also claimed the runner up title in PECDA 2018 (Chennai,India). He has also devised and choreographed “In A Muddle“, a solo improvisation piece, showcased in Chhattisgarh and Play Practice Artist Residency (Bangalore, India).
