About this Event

DJing at TangoMatrix, Beim Schlump 13a Some information about Ray: Raymond Lauzzana, publisher of 'Modern Tango World, magazine. Raymond is a retired computer science professor that has taught computer graphics and image processing around the world. He was one of the founders of ISEA, the International Society for Electronic Arts, and part of the start-up teams for Computer Graphics World and Wired magazines. As an artist, his work may be found in New York's MOMA, and many other museums. In 2003, he retired and has devoted himself to modern tango ever since. His dancing began in the fifties when he and some friends adapted Tango moves to Rhythm & Blues. The dance was called the the Sosh (social) or Gaylord, named after the ballroom where they danced in Detroit. Over the past fifteen years, he has been dancing modern tango, with a focus on the notion of 'move combinations', rather than 'step sequences'. Raymond is a true musical omnivore and a member of "Asociacion de Comunicadores y Promotores del Tango Argentino (ProTango)'. His taste tends towards the deeper more passionate music. His favorite genres are NeoTango, Tango Nuevo, Guardia Vieja (international from the '20s), Blues, Soul, and selective choice from Guardia Nueva. He prefers to organize milongas into tandas, and the overall milonga into a theme. He has DJ'd in North America, Latin America, Europe and Africa. He has also organized several milongas and neolongas, as well as festivals, including the Buenos Aires Neotango Marathon. Well-known among musicians and performers, he can coordinate/schedule performing artists, if needed.
