DJ Lu at Rhythm City Strut

This week come out and dance to the swinging tunes of DJ Lu (Lu Yang)! Happy birthday to the Empress of the Blues, Miss Bessie Smith (April 15, 1894 – September 26, 1937). A Black American queer blues singer widely renowned during the Jazz Age, Miss Smith was the most popular female blues singer of the 1930s. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, she is often regarded as one of the greatest singers of her era and was a major influence on fellow blues singers, as well as jazz vocalists. HBO released a documentary about her in 2015 starring Queen Latifah. ADMISSION • FREE for Intro to Swing students • $5 for all other RCP students • $10 at the door.
