DJ Masterclass for Women & Femme Identified

Have you been feeling the call to step into your unique expression and offering of music and dance? This is a rare opportunity to learn in person the skills you need to begin curating, mixing, and dj'ing your own sets. Whether you are interested in playing at parties, retreats, festivals, ecstatic dances, or any other styles of events or classes, you'll be supported in learning the ropes along with a community of badass women. This 2 day long retreat will be held in the afternoons from 3-6 p.m. at a plush and comfy private residence in NE Portland. Group dinners in the neighborhood after each day's class is optional. We will cover a wide variety of concepts drawing from music theory & history, dance and embodiment as therapy and activism, and the art of curation. However, there will be plenty of focus on the hard skills, such as music organization, understanding the software and hardware, and all about the art of the mix! Christina Sasser, also known as Sheena Medicina (soundcloud.com/sheenamedicina), will be the lead facilitator. She is a passionate conscious entrepreneur, educator and facilitator, and has been a dancer & music lover her entire life. She officially started her dj'ing journey in 2017, often channeling up fresh mixes of uplifting soundscapes with hints of cumbia, twerk, bass, pop, psychedelic downtempo, tribal electronica, house, organic & world beats, plenty of funk & throwback tracks in the mix and always a good healthy dose of feminine medicine. She is determined to help more women find their unique expression & to see more femmes behind the decks! Equipment Needed: At a minimum you will need a well functioning computer and DJ software, and it is highly recommended to also have a controller/mixer and connector cables. Christina is happy to help guide you to the right gear prior to the class. We will be learning Traktor Pro, although the concepts may also be applied to other DJ software, such as Serrato or Ableton.
