About this Event

Dominic Bridge has been fully immersed in Argentine Tango since 2005, emerging as one of North America’s most esteemed practitioners and educators. His contributions to the dance span over 30 countries. This will be his first ever visit to Asheville. Dominic’s pedagogy is rooted in a holistic understanding of Tango as both a social dance and an expressive art form. His methodology emphasizes the mastery of fundamental elements—embrace, connection, floorcraft, musicality, and improvisation—while fostering personal artistry. He also delves into the therapeutic and humanistic dimensions of the dance, championing its potential to build deeper interpersonal connections and enrich emotional wellbeing. This weekend we will be offering five classes: Saturday, November 8 1:00 – 2:15 pm: Opening the Body (Technique for All) Let’s take a deep dive into the movement of the torso, hips, and legs in walks, pivots, ochos, and giros to create greater freedom and fluidity for boleos, ganchos, and other leg play. All Levels – Beginners too! Saturday, November 8 2:15 – 3:30 pm: Under Pressure Learn to connect with your partner through shifts in energy, not just in movement. Master the paradoxical problem of being strong and grounded while remaining light and receptive. Dive into preparatory actions, building on the previous class "Opening the Body". All Levels – Beginners too! Saturday, November 8 3:30 – 4:45 pm: Boleo Silhouettes Don’t hold back when other dancers are envious of your beautiful boleos. In this class, you'll learn how to shape and lead the follower’s free leg, and how to execute boleos safely in milongas. Explore the origins of “en contra” and “a favor,” delve into classical Naveirian structure, and discover the history of various boleo silhouettes along with creative innovations. All Levels Sunday, November 9 1:00 – 2:15 pm: The Ring of Power (Embrace) Discover how subtle adjustments to your frame can yield significant results in leading and following any dance partner. After being named Master of the Ring of Power, we will apply the majesty of your new technique to rotations, preparing you for your journey into the world of sacadas. All Levels Sunday, November 9 2:15 – 3:30 pm: Sacada! Sacadas are some of the most widely-used steps in Tango Salon and are essential in building a wider vocabulary. By the end of this class you will not only understand how a sacada works, but will be able to explore the many possible combinations, as well as execute sacadas in the giro from a close embrace by sliding and rolling. All Levels Workshops will be held at In His Steps Dance Ministry Location: 159 Church St Asheville, NC 28801 Cost: $30 for one workshop $25 per workshop if registering for multiple classes Pre-registration is open, contact Mike Eblen to sign up.
