Profile of Dr. Roland aka “Dr. Salsa” Africa (Benin) / France / Thailand ----- Dr. Roland aka Dr. Salsa, is a French national born in Benin (West Africa), a country renowned for its powerful and magical rhythms and ritual dances. Roland learned the traditional dance steps as part of the ethnic “initiation” in the Mina/Nago/Yoruba tribes and he later developed his own fusion called “Afro-Salsa”. As a Salsa DJ, Roland defines himself as a “story-teller with songs that make people dance with connection”. He is known as “Dr. Salsa” because of his deep knowledge and his research on Salsa history and Concept. He is culturally engaged and he is also a good social dancer and Salsa dance instructor. Roland has managed to combine his professional activities as Lawyer and University lecturer around Asia with teaching and promoting Afro-Latin music, dances and culture. He founded “Salsa Concept” in 2002 and served as DJ and speaker on Salsa history around Asia and at LA Salsa Congress. Roland is a member of the International Dance Council (CID-UNESCO) and initiator of many projects such as ”Salsa Concept Sundays”; “Oremi Alafia Japan”; “Latin Wednesdays”; “Back to the Roots” etc. He is also a contributor of the Afro-Latin Invasion Asia 2015 (ALIA) project in Malaysia with a new interest for Kizomba, under the Asia-Africa Foundation ( HYPERLINK "http://www.asiafricafoundation.org/"www.asiafricafoundation.org).
