Earthshake Ecstatic Dance :: Featuring SASHA of Village Disco :: Sept 5th 2025

We are coming at you with another epic night of ecstatic dance, Friday September 5th, Northampton MA, 25 Main Street, Studio 444. Earthshake is thrilled to welcome SASHA to the booth: A devoted dancer who has been bringing his talents to the Earthshake dance-floor for years, who will now be bringing his passion to the DJ booth, opening our dance with a highly anticipated set. Sasha is a DJ and sound studies scholar who spins house, dancehall, afrobeats, amapiano, and other soulful electronic music from around the globe. Born and raised in Northampton, Sasha developed his craft of weaving communities on the dance floor over a decade of hosting and playing events in the Bay Area. Equally informed by festival, club, and conscious dance spaces, he now carries the progressive party culture of the West Coast back to Western Mass as the co-producer and resident DJ of Village Disco, a quarterly dance in Florence. Ever a dancer first, he is excited to play his debut for the Earthshake community in September. As always, Earthshake is a sober container. This is a venue to bring your joy, your rage, your madness, your sorrow and your laughter, but it is not a venue for drugs or alcohol. The art of ecstatic dance is to notice the places where one might be holding back, and to practice softening those hard walls WITHOUT the aid of hard substances. Over the course of months, dancers tend to discover that the liberation they find on the dancefloor extends into every other facet of life. Discomfort is a part of the point. When we loving face our blocks, and fears, hesitations on the dance floor, and lovingly steps through them, we become more adept at moving authentically in the world. Life become more joyful. Beauty more easily flows into our hearts. And we become a force, deconditioned of the spells that used kept us small, kept us quiet, kept us weak, keep us in control.... We become a force, rewiled, capable of changing our lives and changing our world for the better. Ecstatic dance is FUN! Earthshake is FUN! This s*** is like a wild party. However, this monthly gathering is so much more. This is no mere escape. Earthshake persists, every month, because we believe I a greater purpose. Painting our humanity in an inhumane world. Cultivating our connections in a world sick with separation. Allowing ourselves to be lead by our sprints, and out hearts, and our valued, instead of being led by mindless wants or additions to entertainment or profit. Earthdhake stands as a space to remember that the health of our relationships and the health of our bodies is value that is incomparable to profit we were taught to chase. Earthshake is about consciously and somatically retuning ourselves as individuals who value collective wellbeing. If you can rediscover how to move and how to dance from your heart instead of you mind, you're doing it! Ecstatic dance is a method of reconfiguring our bodies and psyches to move from a place of purpose, assion and values, rather than the selfish habits bombarding us from every direction. Earthshake is a refuge where the spirit of the human village still exists. May we tend it with reverence, like a rare plants, nurse it back to health, and spread it by seed and roots back into the world where it is so dearly needed. And - it's a heck of a lot of fun. Your contributions allow this gathering to continue to exist. ::SOUND:: Last month was our 4-year anniversary, and, for the first time in 4 year, we experienced some notable sound distortions. Our beloved sound tech had a big gig elsewhere, and it took a little longer than we woul have liked to recover the sound quality without him. For those of you who joined us last month, thank you for continuing to be such stalwart dancers as the sound was tuned back to a professional quality. THIS MONTH, we are taking extra steps to ensure the highest level sound quality possible. It is incredibly important to the Earthshake team that we improve whenever we discover a piece that needs better attention. Thank you. We are thrilled to deliver another epic dance. A few simple guidelines: Please keep talking OFF the dancefloor unless it is for safety. Please keep shows off the dancefloor unless they specially designed and specifically reserved for dance. Bring extra water! Always listen to your body first. Always practice consent, with yourself and with others. it is okay to decline a dance or decline and interaction. Never enter into anyone else's direct personal sphere without clearly asking and getting a clear confirmation. Treat the dancefloor and the entire building like a temple, because it is one. ::POTLUCK:: Earthshakle features a potluck-style 'abundance table'. What is that? A place to bring any extra abundance in your life to share. Too many tomatoes? Brig them to other beloved community members who will be nourished by them. Baked more bread than you need? Abundance table. Cleaning out your house and have some extra fine treasures that you want to pass along? Abundance table. Scored a massive bundle of tulsi? Bring it to the group, fresh or brewed! We can all help each other be better resourced. Let's practice sharing our abundance, every month, at the dance. Show off your gardening skills with heaps of fruit and veggies! :P ::Work Trade:: Earthshake is a team effort, We have a variety of work trade opportunities such as setup, breakdown, and door shifts. We have tickets reserved for those who feel a need to dance, but who simply cannot afford it right now. Please do not stay home if money is the sole factor keeping you from joining us.
