EARTHSHAKE Ecstatic Dance MIYAZAKI Night

October 6th, 2023: Join us for an extra-special ecstatic dance: MIYAZAKI NIGHT! Studio Ghibli's beloved worlds wake up the wonder and the hero within us. If you've ever watched a Miyazaki film you have no doubt been left with a sense of wonder and courage: a will to say YES to your own inner magic, and say YES to the inherent magic of the living world around us. Earthshake is New England's largest monthly ecstatic dance. It is already a space of magic, friendship, courage and exaltation. As a prelude to halloween, we'll take Earthshake's magic up another notch by invoking the legendary characters and legendary worlds of the Ghibli Universe: Princess Mononoke Spirited Away My neighbor Totoro Laputa: Castle in the Sky Kiki's Delivery Service Ponyo Princess Kaguya Howl's Moving Castle Porco Rosso Grave of the Fireflies The Wind Rises The Cat Returns................ Let the dance floor be a stage to act out and DANCE your favorite character or your favorite scene from the Miyazki world. Studio 444 will be transformed into an immersive Ghibli universe. Our Dj dance sets will offer a curated journey through new and familiar Ghibli-inspired music. Embark on an adventure into beautiful, serene landscapes, wonder, mystery, adventure, battle, conflict, and, like every Ghibli film, profound resolution. Carefully crafted sets by: Passionflower and Father Otter <3 Come dressed as a favorite Miyazaki character, or, the version of YOU who is evoked by Miyzaki worlds. ----------------------------------------------------- If you're new to ecstatic dance: WELCOME: Ecstatic dance is a free-form, expressive (sober) dance style. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do it, as long as you are listening to your body, listening to your heart, and being respectful of yourself and others in the space. Roar. Laugh. Writhe. Make small, minuscule movements all night or become bigger than every before. Lay on the ground. Transform in a monster. Thrash out the grief, fear, or anxiety you have been carry. Let your dance be a prayer for humanity. Let your dance be a protest. Let your dance be a ritual, a shedding, a rebirth... Let your dance be a connection with your ancestors. Celebrate the wonder of your love. Prance with friends. Open your heart. Feel how it feels to move. Feel how it feels to be in a body. Roll on the ground with a partner. The point is. Have fun and let it out! The world beyond our dance floor works too hard to keep people feeling small, separate, quiet and weak.
