EARTHSHAKE Ecstatic Dance with Omar Aena

July 7th, 2023, Leaders of Western MA and NYC ecstatic dance join forces to bring you a powerful night of dance, music and connection. Join us at Earthshake Ecstatic Dance where primal wildness and tenderness exist as one. Come take the floor, where expression reigns; where your deeper self is invited to play; where your joy and grief, your triumph and anguish are the song that move your body. Be surrounded by devoted, committed dancers, movers, shakers…. Step onto the floor, step into raw human connection, step into the ecstasy of your own body, a hero among hero’s dancing for a better world despite the challenges of our imperiled world. Strangers and familiar faces alike become catalysts for play and expansion and inspiration. Music becomes a portal to come alive in, where all parts of you can live. What happens when you give yourself permission to move freely? What happens when you drop the posturing, the masks, the ways in which we play small to fit into whatever societal molds? What happens when you give yourself permission to play, to howl, to scream, to find your movement in different forms? It is a mystery and an open gate to explore in. We welcome you, dancers who have been doing this for years whom this space is a ritual for, may you come to this dance with fresh openness to what can happen in your movement. We welcome you, those new to the community who have recently found this experience that awakens you. We welcome you, those who have yet to experience what Earthshake or ecstatic dance is. even if you don't see yourself as "a dancer" - there is no wrong way to move - if it pulls you, if you are intrigued to find out what this is all about, well then, this is your opportunity and we welcome you. Snacks and nourishment for the night is encouraged and appreciated. Other ideas & goods that have showed up : books, herbal medicines, excess garden harvests, plant starts, clothing. Anything you wanna pass on to community is welcome! SAFETY : In order go deep + have the best dance possible, we need boundaries around consent. Be mindful when engaging with others and this means things like : if someone is in an internal experience with their eyes closed, that is not the time for touch. When dancing with others, please use the model of inviting others into your dance space as opposed to entering in someone else’s dance space without consent. This can be done using clear body language with an opening of arms or an extension of your hand. If there is ever an instance where you need support, you may come to the organizers - Brianna, Nash, Andrew. We get a lil geeky about capturing little clips of our dances. It’s so beautiful to capture the magic! The organizers and sometimes a designated helper will take some brief video footage + photos. This is done in a way that is not meant to disrupt anyone’s experience. At times, video is posted to social media & if you would not like footage of you posted, please let us know directly.
