5/25 - Sol Rising (L.A.) Class: Padma Gordon Sol Rising crafts alchemical musical journeys one ecstatic beat at a time. His original soundscapes evoke feelings of bliss throughout an eclectic mix of hip-hop, funk, soul, reggae, and electronic dance beats. Born in Vancouver BC, Brandon began meditating at age four with a walking mantra technique. His mother took him to visit numerous spiritual teachers, who inspired him on the spiritual path he walks today. As a teenager, he became a hip hop fanatic. His rooted interest in hip hop led him to learning the art of scratching — using turntables as musical instruments. Sol Rising soon became one of America’s top scratch DJs, winning second place at the DMC, the world’s most prestigious DJ competition. After graduating in the top 5% of his accounting class at University of Iowa, he realized accounting was not his path. A journey to India illuminated his true calling — to light up people’s awareness of their true nature through music. This lead him to study audio engineering and production at Pyramind Studios in San Francisco and produce his first album, "I AM Soul." Now a successful Producer/DJ, Sol Rising plays major events across the West Coast, including Burning Man, Symbiosis and Lightning in a Bottle. He has opened for major acts such as Beats Antique, and produced official remixes for artists including Jai Uttal, Mochipet, David Starfire, Delhi 2 Dublin, Kirtaniyas, and more. With a fervent following in the Ecstatic Dance scene, he has headlined Ecstatic Dance Retreat Hawaii, and is a fixture at Ecstatic Dances across the country. www.soundcloud.com/djsolrising Padma Gordon is a Spiritual Guide, Embodied Mindfulness Counselor, movement educator, mother, writer and lover of life who skillfully invites people to deepen their connection to body, heart, and soul. She teaches about life, love and relationship through the lens of awakening. People across the country choose to work with Padma when they are at a potent crossroads and are searching for deeper meaning in life or when they are in need of insightful reflection. They may be ending a relationship, desiring more purposeful work, facing an illness, grieving a loss or wanting to be more present and engaged in life. Padma assists others to turn toward what they are experiencing so that they can create movement where they are stuck, come home to themselves and thrive. Padma has been in practice for over 10 years and draws from a variety of modalities including contemplative movement practices, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, embodiment, Somatic Gestalt, self-inquiry, and radical truth-telling. She works with individuals and facilitates groups nationwide teaching new ways of listening to the body, quieting the mind, and opening to the heart.
