With humble beginnings in contact dance, immersive art and the festival world, Djake has cultivated a diverse soundscape that attempts to include different rhythms and aesthetically pleasing sonic textures from all over the world. Having run and been apart of the Arcata Ecstatic Dance for many years as well as having run a community based immersive art center for 4 years and having been reguarly found on various dance floors covered in sweat and dancing til sunrise has left Djake in a ideal swirl of new and engaging musical selections. The personal goal of Djake's sets are to encourage play, settling into humor and theatrically based movement and to invoke a sense of elsewhere... if even but for a moment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pre-Dance Workshop ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TITLE - Ecstatic Riffing: An Embodied Theater Workshop FACILITATOR - Ren DESCRIPTION - This movement-based workshop weaves together the expressive energy of ecstatic dance with the collaborative creativity of theatrical storytelling. Designed for participants of all backgrounds, the experience uses the body as the vehicle and "play" as the engine of embodied narrative. Through a blend of large- and small-group improvisations, physical theater exercises, and ensemble-based games, we’ll explore new forms of “riffing”—a collective flow state where ideas, gestures, and impulses are spontaneously shared, echoed, and expanded.
