Growing up in the cultural melting pot of Montreal, he was trained in classical and jazz theory and began exploring music production at the age of 12. Experimenting with audio synthesis and sampling dusty records, he initially fell in love with soul, funk, and hip hop before turning his focus towards the earth's organic sounds. Through his world travels, Mixwell developed a fascination with tribal, tropical, and indigenous music, aligning with his lifelong passion for wilderness and nature. He came to appreciate that traditional instruments, crafted from the hard woods of native trees and the skin and bones of wild animals, are deeply rooted in the living earth.
