About this Event

Ecstatic Dance Vancouver invites you to fill your cup with juicy, funk filled beats and groove-tastic basslines. If you have a hankerin' to move your feet, shake your hips and nod your head then this is the place for you! The Ecstatic Dance community is world wide movement of dance enthusiasts who create amazing spaces to freely move to great music and connect authentically with other dance-loving kin. This is a special launch party for Ecstatic Dance Vancouver featuring the amazing Sasha Rose. Sasha Rose is a multi-talented Canadian singer/songwriter, musician, DJ and producer. From age 16, she began an extensive professional solo-touring career, which took her through the U.S., Australia, Canada and Europe. Sasha has released two solo acoustic albums as Sasha Butterfly, Grace (2001) and Creation Song (2004) and has recorded vocals on over 30 projects including two Random Rab albums, the Interchill release Gathering of the Tribes with her project Kinship, Sevearal Tina Malia albums, and Mimosa’s 2009 album Hostilis. In 2011 she co-produced Qi Goddess (with Jami Deva), which is geared towards healing and meditation. In her musical production, Sasha creates luscious soundscapes and thick bass lines bridged by her soulful, angelic voice and a variety of live instrumentation. Her popularity with the spiritually focused dance crowd comes from her unique hybridization of original production featuring her celestial vocals with carefully selected inspirational dance tracks from various artists. Her performances flow from world beat grooves to tribal rhythms to down tempo dance dub to ecstatic inspirational ascensions to higher realms. Sasha is also a central member of the music collective Liberation Movement, a collaborative project featuring Resurrector of Heavyweight Dub Champion and Shipibo Shamans from the Peruvian Amazon. This is a one time event, regular weekly ecstatic dances will begin in the fall at the same location. DEETS: Doors open at 9:45am Dance from 10:00am-12:30pm Sliding scale $15-$30 at the door Newcomers are welcome! No prior experience necessary. HOUSEKEEPING: **SHIRTS ON PLEASE** Please keep your shirt on, regardless of your gender (we've had a fair bit of feedback around this of late and have decided out of fairness to ask everyone to keep their shirts on) ** IF YOU INTEND TO SWEAT ** Please consider caring for yourself and others by: 1) Taking a shower before you arrive + practice good hygiene, let's face it no one likes stinky dancers! 2) Bringing a towel to wipe up any wake you leave behind **SCENT-FREE SPACE** Please refrain from wearing anything scented in the space ** CELL PHONE USE ** We have a 'no cell phone use' policy in the dance space. If you need to use your device, please do so in the foyer or outside. As you can imagine, it's distracting otherwise. ** KIDS ** Kids under 12 are free! AND -- Parents are asked to kindly monitor their kids, especially during the beginning and ending. If it's quiet, and your kids aren't - please see that they are guided into relative silence. Otherwise we will ask you to take them outside so as not to distract others from the proceedings. ** TALKING ** The dance floor is a no-talking zone. This is again done to remove any distractions and to allow for dropping in more fully. If you need to have a conversation, however brief, please step out into the foyer or go outside. If you witness a conversation happening, you are welcome to gently remind people of this request (with a gesture). ** DANCING ** Enjoy your own personal dance or spark up creative movement with others. If you wish to dance with another, look for eye contact or the body language of an invitation. At any time you, or the person you are dancing with, may choose to end the encounter by moving away, or bowing with hands in prayer. HERE'S MORE OF WHAT ECSTATIC DANCE OFFERS: • Practice freedom of expression through movement, while respecting and being aware of those around you. • Tune into an eclectic selection of musical flavors from a revolving lineup of experienced facilitators. • Inspire and explore new ways to move your body. • Explore the altar space for contemplation, reflection and intention setting. • Learn to enter into a state of trance without the use of substances (no drugs or alcohol please). • Non denominational opening and closing (can be in the form of a prayer, meditation or circle) • Minimal facilitation.
