Beautifully described by Susannah and Ya'Acov Darling-Khan, the founders of Movement Medicine. MOVEMENT: noun – activity, impulse, a change or development MEDICINE: noun – in tribal societies, a curative power MOVEMENT MEDICINE is a body based movement meditation practice that will reconnect you to the wisdom of living from the heart, the joy of knowing who you are and the satisfaction of making your unique contribution to life. MOVEMENT MEDICINE will deepen your connection to yourself, your creativity and the integrity and guidance of your own soul. It is for everyone who wants to wake up, discover more of their creative potential, study shamanism in a down-to-earth way, discover ecstasy without drugs, find community in a way that doesn’t require giving up individuality and find the courage to make your own unique contribution. In short, it’s for anyone who wants to include conscious dance as a way to freedom, mindfulness, awareness and fulfilment. MOVEMENT MEDICINE is shamanic medicine for our times. It gives us direct, embodied experience of the dance of life that’s going on inside us and all round us. As a species, we face enormous challenges right now that we see as arising from the story of separation; separation between body and spirit, between individuals and nations, between the human world and the web of life we are part of and depend upon. Simply put, Movement Medicine reconnects us, deepening our capacity for empathy and compassionate being and action. Since pre-history, dance, song and ritual-making have played an important role in the human community. Movement Medicine is a contemporary expression of this inheritance. It marries ancient and modern wisdom, and supports you to experience the transformative power of your own potential in co-creative community. ALI YOUNG As a child I had two wonderful strokes of good fortune. My family moved to live next to a woodland and my mother gave me an old gramaphone record player. So that from childhood onwards I have known that no matter how tough life got there were two things with the capacity to change my state from suffering to joy in the proverbial beat of a heart (or two). One is dance and the other is taking myself out onto the land. I began studying shamanism in my early twenties in an attempt to make sense of experiences for which 20th century culture had little context. When a series of synchronistic events led me to Gabrielle Roth in 1990 I knew that home, tribe and the elders I had been searching for were on the horizon. I have worked with both her Moving Centre work and with the School of Movement Medicine for over 25 years now. Along the way I trained as a family therapist, became a wife, a stepmother and a mother, danced with cancer several times and wrote a Phd. I have a private practice in shamanic healing and I am passionate about re-establishing our connection to the earth on behalf of both our collective sanity, as well as all those who will come after us. As anyone who knows me will tell you, laughter is an important medicine in my life. I am the founder of Prana Motion and a certified teacher of Movement Medicine. Essentially it is my innate passion for life, love and laughter; community, connection and creativity; words, humour and music; yoga, massage and dance that revitalizes my life every day and enlivens the work that I am called to share. I have been incredibly blessed on my journey to have been supported and guided my many wonderful teachers, friends and family and it is an honour to share with you as we explore together this curious dance we call being human. We are human beings, human becomings, human dancings.
