Or enjoy it all - where your soul leads you... WHAT IS ECSTATIC DANCE? Ecstatic dance is a free-form movement - or dance - that's intended to lead to a feeling of ecstasy. It's a spiritual practice that involves dancing without judgment or expectations, and without the need for a partner nor any dance experience. There are no steps to learn or follow - just the movement of your body. Ecstatic Dances are often led by a DJ, sometimes with live drumming performances, and features music that moves from slow to peak to stillness. The goal is to create a healing journey that takes participants from slow and unwinding to ecstasy, and then towards peace and serenity. Ecstatic dance has been around since ancient times and has been revived in the West since the 2000s. ABOUT DJ NEURODIVE: Adnan Love is one of the founders of EDJ and his stage moniker is NEURODIVE: "When we started EcstaticDanceJersey back before the pandemic - in 2019 - as Ecstatic Dance Princeton - we had little idea how many people we would impact in a deeply profound way - I am fortified by holding spaces for you my friends and all - sharing gratitudes, shedding tears, singing and laughing raucously working through the hard stuff - coming through it all with open arms for you all. After personal struggles with depression for the prior 25 years, anxiety since childhood, and autism / neurodivergence throughout, I recently embarked on a deeply spiritual and intentional plant medicine ceremony - my intention now is to share at the dance a reconnection to our individual and combined ancestries... On Sunday March 10th - as the daylight gets saved - I share with you my historical heritage and lineage of my ancestors. I'm a Jersey boy & YogaGuy - yet hail from lands of sands, the plains of Mohenjo-daro and Shalimar Gardens, the land of the Moghuls of the Punjab, from the banks of the Indus river to the river Euphrates, of Mesopotamia and Babylon, and the Arabian peninsula home of the Hashemites, all these my ancestors. I eventually landed in New York City in February 1974 - exactly 50 years ago - a child living in Brooklyn - the house of hip-hop - listening to early Run-D.M.C. rap on NYC's Z100 station - and now here I am in Jersey, the ancestral lands of the Lenni-Lenape, long before Jersey was New, the Jersey I grew up in, where my son has now turned into an adult. I re-visit the ways in which I was taught as a child to live through life's difficult moments, hardships and grief with somatic release - using the body - rhythm - movement - and human connection... At Ecstatic Dance Jersey we always start with play and laughter, and work through it all. We got so much to share with one another, and I commit to the sharing."
