CALL FOR RATES 818-966-9659 ABOUT EDDIE TORRES: Eddie Torres, also known as “The Mambo King”, is a salsa dance instructor born on July 3,1950 in the same hospital as Tito Puente; raised by his Puerto Rican parents in Spanish Harlem, a.k.a. El Barrio, in New York City. He is the founder of the NY Style Salsa that brought Salsa dancing into popularity in the United States since the 1970's. He is considered a legend and one of the most popular dancers of the New York style salsa on2. Torres' technique developed from various sources including Afro-Cuban son, mambo, and North American jazz dance. He is famous for his way of dancing and teaching, with the female starting to move forward (always On 2 timing). Eddie has been dancing and teaching salsa for over four decades, he has trained thousands of dancers, including some of the most important dancers and instructors all over the world like Delille Thomas (Mambo D), Wilton Beltre (the founder of Santo Rico Dance Company), Adolfo Idacochea, Franklin Diaz, Frankie Martinez, Seaon Bristol, and many more. Through his dance school, he has taught thousands of people how to dance salsa in his own distinctive style. He also has a children's dance program that teaches approximately three hundred students a year. If Eddie Torres is the King of NY style mambo, then Maria, his wife is the Queen. She has been working with the NY “Mambo King” for much of his career to the point that her name has become synonymous with his (i.e. Eddie and Maria Torres). The two represent the ultimate couple when it comes to NY mambo dance relationships. She has helped Eddie Torres forge a style of dance that is presently edging its greatest growth in popularity ever. Her years of experience with Eddie, makes her one of the most experienced female mambo instructors in all New York. Many top female dancers have gone through Eddie Torres and much of their female mambo styling has come from Maria. She has probably danced at more Tito Puente events than any other person (with the exception of Eddie Torres). Her presence has grace countless stages including Madison Square Garden, Town Hall and The Manhattan Center to name a few. She has traveled across the United States and overseas to perform and teach with Eddie. They say that behind every successful man is a woman, well Maria is that woman. And though she has always been content to remain in the shadows, her recognition as a mambo teacher is long overdue. Maria Torres teaches her popular mambo class before Eddie's.
