About this Event

Yuko says “Hi everyone, this Monday I will feature Roberto Maida. For most of us he is a singer of Canaro’s orquesta, with which he sang for about five years in the latter half of the 1930s. One of the most iconic and popular recordings is “Poema”. In Australia, it was very popular in the mid 2000s. I reckon many people first listened to this recording and fell in love with it around 2003 or 2004, when we saw Cecilia Gonzalez and Pablo Inza performing to it at the Sydney International Tango Festival. Before then, most performances were to either Pugliese instrumentals from the 1950s, Piazzolla’s Oblivion, or Narcotango. Cecilia and Pablo’s performance was so playful and fresh, and opened many people’s hearts and ears up to Guardia Vieja style of music. Canaro’s album from 1935 with Maida was heavily played at our household after that performance for sure. Gary and me will take three weeks off after this El Boliche, so come and dance with us this week! You might get some garden veggies too if you come early. DJ Jamie with host Grace will be looking after you on 16 and 23 of March.” El Boliche: 3 hours or so of lovely tango music, usually from DJ Yuko. No cash?
