This quote came from an interview with Alejandro Michetti (according to todotango). He continues ‘The exaggerations made by bandoneon players have as an aim a substitution for the flute, an objective that never will be reached.’ Bandoneon is now a synonym for tango, but some were not impressed by it in its early days. And Michetti was — yes, you guessed it right — a flautist. So, tango developed in a very different direction from what he loved, perhaps a more gentle and folksy style. I find this quite interesting, so I decided to feature one of his compositions tomorrow: ‘Quién te iguana.’ I have a 1941 recording by D'Arienzo with the singer Reynal. I will play that, and see where it takes me for the rest of the night.
