Entangled Fusion - October 2023

Many of the Entangled Team are VERY big fans of Halloween, so our theme for October is ... Halloween! Come dressed up and ready to boogie! ENTANGLED: 7:00pm - 8:00pm - Advanced Group Lesson with Jeannie Lin & Derek Tang 8:00pm - 9:00pm - Beginner Group Lesson with Matt Brown 9-12am - Fusion Social Dancing DJ Lineup: 9:00pm - 10:25pm - Marie Rae October Birthday Dance - Costume Contest (there will be a prize!) 10:35pm - 12am - Can Aksoy Pricing at the Door: We will be using a Sliding Scale. $15 is the minimum barrier for entry, but those who are willing to Give Back to help sustain Entangled Fusion's future can pay up to $25. This price does not include Jeannie's workshop. Please reach out to her for pricing. Parking & Location: There is a parking lot connected to the church. It is on the video posted. The parking lot entrance is on 791 E Calaveras St, Altadena, CA 91001 but there is also a lot of street parking. It is in a residential area, so we ask everyone to please be respectful with their noise when arriving and leaving while outside. No hard shoes. No hard heels. FlowState Studio will be holding an after-party once again from close out of Entangled to whenever everyone passes out. THE VENUE: The venue is air-conditioned, and we have fans. NOTE: We are grateful to Altadena Baptist Church for allowing us to host our event at their space again. They are one of the few Baptist Churches that is LGBTQ-inclusive (including marriage) and has been a progressive church since the 1970s, making sure that the BIPOC community is represented in their leadership. WHAT IS FUSION DANCE? Fusion dance is many things to many people, and there is not necessarily a correct answer. But in a general way, the idea is that it often combines different styles of social dance (although solo dancers and those with solo dance backgrounds make for some fantastic fusion dancing, especially when they have a fundamental understanding of social dance) to create a new, free-formed, more artistic expression of social dance. It doesn’t adhere to any one genre or typically defined social or ballroom dance style (ie. swing, salsa, tango, zouk – many of which are fusion dances themselves, but that’s an entirely different topic and conversation!). Fusion generally utilizes the Lead-Follow Approach to social dancing, but depending on the individual or both partners’ ability, knowledge, and skill, those roles can easily be reversed mid-dance for a Switch.
