About this Event

Kizomba is an extremely beautiful and sensual dance, which conquered the world in recent years. Having its roots in Angola, reaching back to the 1950s, it spread to Portugal in the late 1970s and from there took an evolving journey to France and all around the world. Known as the African Tango, although it doesn't stem from it, its latest evolution indeed does include some influences from Tango and Zouk. At the moment there are two styles that have big communities worldwide - Traditional Kizomba and Urban Kiz. Kizomba is a breath of fresh air when compared to popular Latin dances, like Salsa and Bachata. It is new and exciting, and most of all African, which dancers can feel from the very first steps. It is known for its distinctive beat and a dance style which seduces our souls. Due to its softness and easy basic steps, new members of the community can pick up the dance and enjoy the pleasure of social dancing very quickly. Workshop participants will start from the basics and learn to enjoy the charms of Kizomba in a relaxed atmosphere. Selected participants will also have the opportunity to perform with the instructors on stage at the carnival Viva Africa on the next day (5.11) afternoon at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza!
