FCBD® and Fusion bellydance April-May 2026

Join us at Jungle City Studios as we continue with FatChance® and Fusion bellydance, running from 26th April through to 24th May, 2026. Join us for the full 2 hours or choose a single session. Classes are open level (best suiting those with some movement or bellydance experience). Please don’t hesitate to message if you are curious. Please note that you must book through the supplied links or arrange with Briohny May via private message, at least 1 day prior to the workshop. Class 1: In FatChance Belly Dance® we will continue perfecting formations and transitions, as we firm up our set of songs for performance. We practice zils in every class, and dress comfortably. A 25 yard skirt (or minimum pantaloons) is suggested to get used to performing in costume. As always, we will cover Fat Chance Bellydance ® technique, with emphasis on connecting with fellow dancers and polishing improvisation skills in a 20-30 minute guided improv session. Class 2: In fusion, we drill classic isolations and sequences, as well as some signature combos rolled into a choreography that is transferrable to multiple songs. In addition we will continue to work on travelling with isolations and hipwork, and shimmy stamina! There will be opportunities to present from this material in coming months (to be discussed in class). Dress for freedom of movement and whatever you feel fab in. With practice, this beautiful group based improvisational format can be taken to the streets or the stage, and is also a super solid base for the infamous Rachel Brice’s Datura™ and other fusion styles. She draws together the tradition, joy and flamboyance within these styles, alongside Eastern European folkloric influences, into her own eclectic folk fusion. She regularly performs with her FCBD® and folk fusion style troupe ‘The Vivid Sisters’ with the Footscray Gypsy Orchestra, The Black Sea Ensemble, and the Lira show across Melbourne. After first discovering bellydance in 1996, Briohny attended Underbelly Dance studios, Melbourne, from 2005, studying West African, Dancehall, and Middle Eastern dance forms. In addition to tuition in traditional belly dance with Trisnasari, Briohny performed with Red Belly Black with Melusina, Wassawumba! and Melbourne Djembe, and the Magic Theatre and Eccentrix as a fire performer for several years. From 2009 Briohny focused on fusion bellydance, studying in Australia and the US, attending workshops and intensives with master teachers including Jill Parker, Rachel Brice, Mira Betz, Zoe Jakes, Mardi Love, Heather Stants, The Lady Fred, Colleena Shakti, Sera Solstice, Amy Sigil, Cera Byer, Kami Liddle, Sharon Kihara, Elizabeth Strong, Samantha Emanuel and Devi Mamak. She completed ATS® General Skills certification with Carolena Nericcio, in 2011 and again in 2015 where she also completed Teacher Training and became a FCBD® Sister Studio. Briohny has travelled to study and perform interstate and internationally, including to Tribal Fest (’11 and ’12), Tribal Massive (’12 and ‘13) and to the infamous Fat Chance BellyDance® studios.
