We will investigate how to organise our bodies in order to fluidly transition in flight. How to stabilise and fortify the architecture of the body to allow this fluid transition for our partner who is accessing the floor through the integrity of our bone structure. The focus will be on embodying different somatic qualities that encourage the act of flight to occur, and transitioning between the ‘hard’, stable, base posture and the ‘soft’, reaching, flighty one. We will also examine how the raising and lowering of our center can signal our partner and how to activate a twisting-core spiral in order to maintain momentum and flow at different levels from the floor to the sky. (This workshop is intended for practitioners with an intermediate skill level, but everyone is welcome to join) 𝑮U𝑬𝑺𝑻 𝑻𝑬𝑨𝑪𝑯𝑬𝑹 Kieran Mitchell is an experienced dance artist and dedicated practitioner of Contact Improvisation (CI). He began his dance journey 32 years ago at Bodenweiser Dance Studio in Sydney, where he trained in Modern dance for seven years and Ballet for five years. He attended a performing arts high school and has been deeply involved in physical theatre and contemporary dance theatre. For the past 11 years, Kieran has focused on CI, teaching workshops and classes across Australia, Germany, Turkey, Thailand, and Scotland. He has been invited to teach at prestigious CI festivals, including the Australian CI Convergence (ACIC) and the Thailand Contact Festival. As a teacher Kieran has a strong focus on technique and how to communicate technical understanding to others.
