About this Event
Imagine a Trip to Northeastern Brazil with a Layover in Kingston.
Reggae and Forró have similarities that have been studied by masters of Brazilian music throughout the years. There's a story in the state of Maranhão, that says Brazilian Radio stations in the 70's used to catch waves coming from Jamaica, and helped influence their music. Gilberto Gil once said, Xote and Reggae have the same groove. Notoriously Forró and Reggae have been traveling side by side through this new century of cultural crossovers.
In the Bay Area, we are blessed with enough diversity to have representatives of Brazilian Northeastern Forró and Brazilian Reggae, and they'll meet up at the Elbo Room Jack London, in Oakland for a memorable night of live music.
Representing the rhythms of Forró ( Baião,Xote, Xaxado, Rastapé) is Veesh Maria, SF based Forró Fusion: https://veeshmaria.bandcamp.com/
