About this Event

We're delighted to have Nancy back! Her classes are always super fun and connective and bring the concept of listening to your partner to a higher level of awareness. The moves and insights she brings are always valuable to experienced dancers, as well as being instructive and accessible to newcomers. Here's info on the class she'll be teaching: Deep Micro: Making Contact Micro Fusion brings the art of the small dance to partner dancing. We reduce the size of the movement, and deepen our awareness and our listening -- the dance becomes an intimate conversation, shared like a whisper. We explore the space of active listening, where we engage expressive responses to our partner’s invitations, where we find the equal and opposite engagement that allows us to relax into the other person’s subtle movement. In this class, we will start by exploring our own awareness, where our physical space begins and how it affects us to have another body enter our spheres of energetic consciousness. Through the exercise of making choices about when and with whom we connect, we’ll practice consent and the expression of our boundaries and our yes. We may breathe together and find the continuous sweetness of inhale and exhale and the pauses between breaths. We explore the delight of consonance with another body. By playing with isolations, we’ll allow movements to ripple through us and between us, from shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip, up and down our frame. And we’ll respond to the music, choosing one aspect and then another to add to our initiations and responses, so that the music becomes a third partner in the dance. Micro dance can be a meditation, a quiet conversation, an ocean of sound and sensation that lifts and cradles us in the waves of experience. There is profound pleasure and expansive presence available when we increase the constraints on our expression and bring our awareness to the small, the tiny, the finite. The dance becomes a doorway to the infinite and our ordinary, extraordinary human life. We hope you join us and share your own alchemy in this exquisite dance form. Let’s make magic together! No partner required, come by yourself or with a friend. No micro or previous partner dance experience necessary. CoMotion Magic Bio Derek Briones and Nancy Shanteau founded CoMotion Magic in 2016 as they began dancing together. Together and separately they’ve studied Blues, Swing, Tango, Salsa and Improvisational dance forms for 25+ years. Their classes are welcoming, accessible, inclusive, and fun with an emphasis on first creating conscious, enjoyable connections with partner and self, then moving into structured forms and expressive improvisation. CoMotion Magic is an open-handed dance form that brings together teachings as wide-ranging as yoga, somatics, aikido, chi gung, Relationship Anarchy and Skills for Change coaching as well as contact improv, fusion partner dance, swing, tango, and blues. CoMotion Magic offers dancers an unlimited potential for creative expression. CoMotion Magic dancers blend the egalitarian, radical values of “leaderless” dance with the structured movement forms of “traditional” dance to create something “leader- full,” unique and original. More information and dance videos can be found on their Facebook page CoMotion Magic https://www.facebook.com/CoMotionMagic/ Our DJs will be Nancy and Kalub.
