This One Evening 'FUNDAMENTALS OF EASE' Contact Improvisation Workshop is good for all levels including beginners Thursday January 15 6:30 to 9pm @ The DanceSpace $25 pre-registered $35 at the door We will discover moving through a common point of contact, giving and taking weight, and playing with supporting, lifting, falling and flying. There will be special emphasis on releasing the neck and pelvis and moving in greater states of mindfulness and disorientation. In this evening workshop we will visit the fundamentals of contact improvisation: the contact point, weight sharing, pathways into the floor and into the air, and finding the root of levity. With games, some sweat, and the unique physicality of the contact body we will look to surprise ourselves in extended follow-through. We will explore: •Moving from a base of sensation • Dancing with a shared central axis • Seeking ease in going off balance • Discovering the spontaneous acrobatics of the form For all levels including beginners. Also highly recommended for experienced CI dancers registering for 3 day Intensive who are feeling a little rusty. For his contribution to CI development he is a Fulbright Senior Specialist and listed in Who's Who in the World. Martin was the director of the Empty Gate Zen Center in Berkeley before discovering the world of dance. He is one of the original members of the Motivity Dance Company, is co-founder of Spring/Fall Dance Studio and of The Dancing Ground, an organization that produces conferences on gender and mythology in Northern California and has also taught C.I. to the blind.
