We are excited to invite you to join our team of passionate artists from Venezuela, NYC, Chicago, and more to kick off the New Year with some sweet, island moves and grooves featuring multiple workshops from all levels to advanced difficulty plus evening social dancing parties, afternoon practicas, meet and greet hangout sessions, limited enrollment advanced training intensives, and more! Get ready for 20+ hours of solid Lambada goodness, exploring the roots of the main dance style influencing the creation of Brazilian zouk with tips for how to apply the technique to the rest of your dancing knowledge with one of the most elite, well respected instructors on the planet for these rhythms, Ry'el ZenZouk aka Henry Velandia (Venezuela / NYC) with support from local and regional favorites like Sydney Schiff, Just Jacob, and friends! Official after-party immediately following with the artists, location TBA. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS + Attenders are welcome to use masks (or request such from dance partners), but we won't enforce them for this event. + All attenders regardless of vaccination status or masking preference must pass a negative COVID test with results no greater than 72 hours before event participation. (Note: PCR, rapid antigen, and saliva tests all accepted but NOT antibody test.) There are multiple free and low cost testing options across Chicago, and we will have LIMITED rapid self-test kits on site for sale at cost, i.e. $25. + Reduced indoor capacity and facilities thoroughly cleaned throughout the event with hand sanitizing encouraged in the event of partner switching. + All participant names, emails, and phone numbers confidentially recorded to facilitate contact tracing, if necessary. CONFIRMED ARTISTS + Ry'el ZenZouk aka Henry Velandia (Venezuela / NYC / Indianapolis) - Instructing all levels to advanced content for his first, weekend long Lambada workshop and dance party series in Chicago! Performer, choreographer, instructor, and creator of ZenZouk in NYC, Ry’el's main goal is to educate and cultivate the appreciation and love for our bodies through mindfulness, body awareness, solo movement, and partner dancing. Building from a strong and versatile foundation by embracing the evolution of classic dance technique found in the origins of Brazilian zouk vis-a-vis Lambada, Ry'el will share his personal movement experience and exploration informed by his decades of training in other dance forms, including Classical Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Ballroom (International Latin) plus social dance styles like Salsa, Bachata, Cha-Cha, and more for the dancer who is ready for a deep dive into Lambada with applications for Brazilian zouk. + Sydney Schiff (Chicago, IL) - Assisting Ry'el with all levels to advanced content! Sydney Schiff is a classically trained dancer, choreographer, teacher, and helpless lover of Brazilian zouk, having worked as a contemporary dancer, choreographer, and company director in NYC before earning her MFA in dance at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor followed by her relocation to Chicago. Sydney has achieved multiple touring instruction, performing, and DJaying credits across the world, including North America, Europe, and Brazil in addition to having trained with Ry'el in the ZenZouk method plus cross-training with other significant Latin social dancing entities leading up to the launch of her own Brazilian Zouk Flow Academy in 2022. + Just Jacob (Chicago, IL) - Organizing, DJaying, and dancing all weekend!
