He and Boston’s Ruth Evelyn are teaming up to share with you their passion for delicious, connected dances, along with some dance history nerdery. Schedule: Saturday, February 21, 12:15pm-5pm Balboa at the Allston Abbey Come up your balboa dancing with this full afternoon! Topics will include pure balboa, slow balboa, and bal-swing. We expect you to have balboa and bal-swing basics comfortable in your body. Peter and Ruth specialize in tailoring classes to a wide range of students, so come prepared to be challenged, whatever experience level you are at! Sunday, February 22, 10:30am-3pm Lindy Hop at the Allston Abbey Lindy Hop! Connection is our passion, and we'll work on making all tempos of dancing feel delightful. We'll focus on techniques for fast and slow tempos. Peter and Ruth specialize in tailoring classes to a wide range of students, so come prepared to be challenged, whatever experience level you are at! Monday, February 23, 7-9pm Collegiate Shag at Mango Studios (Peter only instructing) 7pm Class 1 “You’re afraid of Collegiate Shag - Fear No More!” This class is geared for people who are collegiate-shag curious, though people with experience are enthusiastically welcomed. 8pm Class 2 Collegiate Shag for the Addicted This class is for people who already dance Collegiate Shag and are excited to grow their skills. For all classes breaks will be taken as instructors gauge the class needs them. Please bring a water bottle, and feel free to bring snacks for yourself. Please also bring dedicated dance shoes, rather than street shoes. Venues: The Allston Abbey 5 St. Lukes Rd. Allston, MA 02134 Mango Studios 112 Bishop Allen Dr. Cambridge, MA 02139 Instructors: Peter Flahiff began swing dancing in 1993 and started teaching just one year later. He’s taught across the United States and around the world, including Herrang Dance Camp (Sweden,) Lindy Focus (USA,) Camp Hollywood (USA,) California Balboa Classic (USA,) Balboa on the River (Australia,) and many others. Peter has been a featured DJ at The Snowball, The Experiment, California Balboa Classic, and Camp Hollywood, to name a few. He’s also a noted coach, lecturer, emcee and competition judge. Today, Peter counts some of the world’s top dancers and instructors as his own former students. Peter’s worldwide reputation is as a highly sought-after social dancer and instructor. He helped create several thriving venues over the years (Rusty’s Rhythm Club in Los Angeles, ATOMIC Ballroom in Orange County, and Eastside Stomp in Seattle.) Ruth Evelyn (they/she) is passionate about jazz dances. Ruth's teaching journey has taken them around the world, teaching and performing Lindy, Balboa, or Blues (or all three!) in 30 countries, and most of the US states. After studying dance, music, and psychology in undergrad, Ruth continued her movement studies with Franklin Method (body somatics) certifications. Ruth both follows and leads, and is passionate about teaching movement quality, technique, and musicality in a detailed and fun way. Currently when not social dancing, Ruth's time is absorbed with grad school, where she studies mental health therapy, specializing in dance therapy.
