Global Underscore 2024 https://globalunderscore.com The KohPhangan (Thailand) Contact Improvisation community will be participating in The Global Underscore practice (GUS) with other 63+ sites all over the world, on June 22nd 2024. Facilitator: Aluna Moon ( she’s been practicing Contact Improvisation since 2012, and encountered the form of Underscore in 2015, fell in love with it immediately as it liberated her from many ideas around dance and movement and began to see dance in every moment everywhere, and since then been participating and facilitating various Global underscore and underscore practices in China and Thailand. ) Time: Talk through: 6:00-6:45pm Global Underscore: 7:00-10:00pm Location: Sati Yoga, Srithanu, Koh Phangan Fees: Talk Through 180thb Global Underscore 200thb Together will be 380thb if you join the whole event. * If attendance fee is your concern please reach out to Aluna directly and we find the way together. SUITABILITY: It is required that you attend a few CI classes and have done the Underscore before (you could join the “talk through “before the global underscore on 22nd). If you have done underscore before, could join the global practice directly starting at 7pm. Attendees must arrive promptly at the start time and stay for the duration of the session. The Underscore is a long-form dance improvisation structure developed by Nancy Stark Smith (who has been central to CI’s development as dancer, teacher, performer, writer/publisher, and organizer.) It has been evolving since 1990 and is practiced all over the globe. The Underscore is a framework for practicing and researching group improvisation, integrating Contact Improvisation into a broader arena of improvisational practice. The Underscore guides dancers through a progression of changing states from rest and small, quiet internal activity through more active, interactive dancing and back to rest and reflection. The 20+ phases of the score—each with a name and graphic symbol—create a general map for the dancers. Within that frame they are free to create their own movements, dynamics, and relationships—with themselves, each other, the group, the music, and the environment. Each Underscore is unique. Please bring paper to draw and/or write and wear comfortable clothes that you can move in, although the movement segments can also be experienced from your seat.
