Grounded Connection Intensive

While we all partner dance to fulfill different wants and needs, a universal aspect of partner dancing is the connection. We would all like to improve our connection regardless of our dance experiences, but how exactly do we improve something that seems so individual and abstract? Brazilian Zouk is known for its myriad types of connection – from the heart-to-heart (physical close hold) to wi-fi (primarilyi visual connection) and everything in between. In addition to a physical connection, there is also a connection to be established through visual contact, musicality, emotion, intent and matched energy. When everything aligns, you may feel beautifully lost within each other in space - effortlessly synced with your partner as your dances ascend to new levels of complexity and flow. This 3 hour, open-level, intensive workshop is a detailed exploration of the physical connection within Brazilian Zouk. We will first study body alignment and posture. In order to connect with another partner, we must first connect with the ground and with ourselves through the understanding of our body and its movements. Then we will learn how to gently initiate contact, maintain the connection, and effortlessly change the type of hold using proper alignment and movement with each other. We will explore the differences between open, semi-open, and heart-to-heart holds through a series of exercises and simple patterns. By the end of the workshop, you will have the tools to create a gentle, patient, and clear three-dimensional connection regardless of the type of hold, and how to shift between all three types. Jerry and Celeste have studied with many Brazilian Zouk teachers on the topic of connection over the last two and a half years.
