It’s designed to provide intensive training and practice in Samba de Gafieira and Bolero, allowing participants to make significant progress in a short amount of time. Samba de Gafieira is a Brazilian partner dance that originated in Rio de Janeiro. It combines elements of samba with influences from ballroom dance. Characterised by dynamic movements, intricate footwork, and playful interactions between partners, it is often danced to lively Brazilian music. Brazilian bolero is a slow-tempo partner dance that originated in Brazil, influenced by the Cuban and Spanish bolero music styles, as well as Argentine Tango and other Brazilian dances. Samba de Gafieira and Brazilian Bolero, like Zouk, are partner dances that require a strong connection between dancers. Taking classes in these styles can improve your ability to connect with different partners and adapt to varied dynamics, provide new pathways into body movement, styling nuances and partner connection techniques that can make your social dancing more creative and expressive. And finally, learning these dances can deepen your understanding of the cultural context and musical influences that contribute to Brazilian Zouk. ⏩ Is there an audition process? What are the requirements? ⏪ This year we are not holding auditions for the Intensive Bootcamps. Instead, we are trying something new for our Australian event. In the effort to accommodate feedback and suggestions, all participants will be signing up with a partner of their choice. Our best recommendation is that your dance level (in any style) is at very least upper-beginner (6-9 months), better yet if you are an Intermediate level dancer (1 year plus). But wait, how does that work? Each couple will sign up for the class as partners (1 Leader + 1 Follower) and take this class as partners.
